Astrologi Hallucinati: Stars and the End of the World in Luther’s Time by Paola Zambelli
The present volume is the result of a conference held on 28-29 May 1984 at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. All the papers read at the conference have been published here with the addition of three strictly connected articles. Unfortunately it proved impossible to publish the long and sometimes very lively discussion; but the attentive reader will detect interesting differences amongst several contributors, especially as far as the first papers on the foundation of astrology and of astrological theory of history are concerned. It has been my choice to keep my role as an editor the most respectful: this is the reason why the differences of emphasis and perhaps of information, which emerged at the conference, are still characterising several contributions. Inclusion in this volume therefore does not indicate assent by the editor to all the papers included. I have publicly and privately expressed my difference of opinion with certain general definitions e.g. of Aristotelianism and Augustinism. It is, however, my conviction that it was important to include in this volume the whole spectrum of the theses discussed.
