This book does not seek to teach. It does not present a method, nor does it proclaim a truth: it contemplates a movement, that of human beings in search of something. This search is not a choice, it is inscribed in the heart of the human condition. Behind all our endeavours — understanding, loving, creating, building, believing — lies the same impulse: to rediscover what we have never really lost.
Human beings are fundamentally seekers of truth, even when they are unaware of it. Sometimes they seek it in matter, sometimes in the sky, sometimes in the heart. They seek it in myths, in philosophy, in art, in science, in astrology, in the construction of temples, cathedrals or pyramids, even in the cave paintings of the most ancient caves. Each of these gestures expresses, in its own way, the same nostalgia: that of a sense of unity, of the silent source from which everything emanates.
Over the centuries, this search has taken a thousand forms: mystical contemplation, philosophical questioning, scientific exploration, symbolic elaboration. But all converge towards the same aspiration: to pierce the mystery of existence — or rather, to be pierced by it. The sky, myth, matter and the psyche become mirrors of the same call.
This book follows in the footsteps of this quest. It does not prove anything, but observes how Consciousness contemplates itself through human beings. Each chapter explores a particular language—synchronicity, myth, symbolism, astrology—not to create a system, but to recognise the same movement of awakening: truth seeking itself through human form.
We will evoke the words of Western masters, philosophers and mystics, who have reminded us that suffering arises from the feeling of being separate. This feeling, which is illusory, gives rise to the quest for happiness and liberation. As we discover that this separation never took place, the quest is transformed: it is no longer a search for what is missing, but a recognition of what is.
Thus, suffering becomes a sign of a call for clarity, and happiness, not a goal to be achieved, but a natural state that reveals itself when confusion ceases. Truth cannot be conquered: it reveals itself, silently, when the search itself is exhausted.
This book does not teach truth: it allows it to appear through the traces it has left in the human psyche. By following these traces—from prehistory to philosophy, from symbolism to astrology—each person may recognise what they were seeking without knowing it: that the quest itself is already the manifestation of truth.
For what humans call “quest” is nothing other than Consciousness remembering itself through the experience of the world.
